This is the first Shari\u2019ah-compliant credit risk guarantee in sub-Saharan Africa, which marks a critical milestone for both institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Through the partnership, the Credit Risk Guarantee Collateral Cover will enable access to financing facilities for SMEs that qualify on all fronts but lack suitable or adequate collateral. This will lead to the provision of acceptable collateral to cover unsecured portions of the facility while enabling GAB to effectively and efficiently achieve a desired SME quality asset book and reduce credit losses.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the partnership, African Guarantee Fund Group CEO Jules Ngankam said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAGF has entered into a first-of-its-kind guarantee partnership to support Gulf African Bank\u2019s SME financing strategy in line with the approved Shari\u2019ah principles. Our partnership will promote enterprise growth in Kenya by enabling access to quality and affordable credit for SMEs that qualify for credit facilities sought, but lack adequate collateral. AGF will additionally provide capacity development assistance to increase the Bank\u2019s capacity to appraise SMEs and implement growth strategies to bring the Bank\u2019s SMEs to their required scale.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-399 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/demo.oxygenehosting.com\/agf-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/MGM8967-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/demo.oxygenehosting.com\/agf-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/MGM8967-1.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/demo.oxygenehosting.com\/agf-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/MGM8967-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/demo.oxygenehosting.com\/agf-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/MGM8967-1-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the partnership signing ceremony, Gulf African Bank\u2019s MD Anuj Mediratta said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe are proud to have partnered with AGF to roll out the first Shari\u2019ah-compliant Credit Risk Guarantee scheme in sub-Saharan Africa, a de-risking arrangement that will enable SME\u2019s that could not access financing facilities due to inadequate collateral and absence of Shari\u2019ah compliant collateralization arrangements a chance to access credit from the bank. Through this partnership, we are going to finance more SMEs thereby allowing them to play their role in driving Kenya\u2019s economic growth.
