However, data tells a different story\u2014women entrepreneurs have higher loan repayment rates and reinvest more in their communities.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-246 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/demo.oxygenehosting.com\/agf-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/2-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/demo.oxygenehosting.com\/agf-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/2-2.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/demo.oxygenehosting.com\/agf-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/2-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/demo.oxygenehosting.com\/agf-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/2-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/demo.oxygenehosting.com\/agf-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/2-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/demo.oxygenehosting.com\/agf-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/2-2-1536x1024.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wilfried Abiola, African Development Bank\u2019s Country Manager for Togo<\/strong>, put it plainly:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe AFAWA initiative is not just a financial instrument; it aims to change the narrative and general perceptions, to transform the notion that small and medium-sized enterprises run by women are risky businesses. AFAWA is working to turn these businesses into substantial investment opportunities for institutions, in particular through the Guarantee for Growth programme, which was designed by the Bank.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Through\u00a0<strong>AFAWA\u2019s Guarantee for Growth (G4G) program<\/strong>, banks are now being encouraged to rethink how they lend to women, with over<strong>\u00a0USD 1 billion in financing made available<\/strong>\u00a0through the de-risking mechanism.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"from-policy-to-progress-togo%E2%80%99s-commitment-to-women-entrepreneurs\"><strong>From Policy to Progress: Togo\u2019s Commitment to Women Entrepreneurs<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Togo\u2019s government is already taking bold steps to create a more inclusive financial landscape.\u00a0<strong>Koffi Gani, Principal Private Secretary to the Minister for Social Action, Women\u2019s Advancement, and Literacy<\/strong>, highlighted a significant policy shift:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThrough the government&#8217;s action, 25 percent of public contracts are now awarded to women and young people, and on the economic front, the government aims to resolve the problem of access to credit for women and girls with the establishment of the National Fund for Inclusive Finance, which has helped more than 1.2 million women.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These initiatives are not just empowering women\u2014they are strengthening\u00a0<strong>Togo\u2019s private sector and economic growth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"afawa%E2%80%99s-long-term-vision-for-women-entrepreneurs\"><strong>AFAWA\u2019s Long-Term Vision for Women Entrepreneurs<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Beyond discussions, the\u00a0<strong>AFAWA Finance Series also provided training<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0<strong>30 financial institutions<\/strong>\u00a0on gender-smart financing. We are extremely optimistic that the impact will be significant in the long term and will stimulate economic growth in Togo.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>With USD 1.7 billion already invested across Africa, AFAWA is proving that when women thrive, economies grow.
