For many\u00a0women-led businesses in Tanzania<\/strong>, securing funding has long been a challenge, with\u00a0collateral requirements, high interest rates, and limited financial products<\/strong>\u00a0acting as major barriers. But a new initiative is changing the game.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0AFAWA Finance Series<\/strong>\u00a0recently kicked off in\u00a0Dar es Salaam<\/strong>, bringing together\u00a0financial sector leaders, Government, policymakers, and entrepreneurs<\/strong>\u00a0to discuss real solutions for closing the USD\u00a042 billion gender financing gap<\/strong>\u00a0in Africa. Organized by the\u00a0African Development Bank (AfDB)<\/strong>\u00a0in partnership with the\u00a0African Guarantee Fund (AGF)<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0Tanzania Bankers\u2019 Association (TBA)<\/strong>, the event focused on\u00a0de-risking loans to women entrepreneurs<\/strong>\u00a0and encouraging banks to expand financial products for them.<\/p>\n

Over\u00a0200 participants<\/strong>, including top government officials and banking executives, explored how initiatives like\u00a0AFAWA\u2019s Guarantee for Growth (G4G) program<\/strong>\u00a0can support women SMEs. More than just talk, the event\u00a0led to a key agreement<\/strong>\u00a0between AfDB, AGF, and CRDB Bank\u2014one of Tanzania\u2019s largest financial institutions\u2014to\u00a0expand lending opportunities for women-led businesses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

During the opening ceremony,\u00a0Tuse Joune (President, TBA)<\/strong>\u00a0highlighted the importance of financial inclusion, stating that\u00a0empowering women financially means empowering entire communities<\/strong>.\u00a0Lawrence Mafuru (Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Planning)<\/strong>\u00a0emphasized the\u00a0economic benefits of supporting women entrepreneurs<\/strong>, while\u00a0Hon. Exaud Kigahe (Deputy Minister, Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade)<\/strong>\u00a0reinforced the government’s commitment to\u00a0creating a more supportive environment for women-led businesses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
