{"id":6993,"date":"2019-01-30T11:10:45","date_gmt":"2019-01-30T11:10:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aercafrica.org\/?p=6993"},"modified":"2022-01-27T16:18:27","modified_gmt":"2022-01-27T16:18:27","slug":"delivering-inclusive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/demo.oxygenehosting.com\/aerc\/delivering-inclusive\/","title":{"rendered":"Delivering Inclusive Financial Development and Growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 25 January, African Economic Research Consortium&#8217;s (AERC) Executive Director,\u00a0Prof Njuguna Ndung&#8217;u,\u00a0 gave the keynote speech at the UK&#8217;s Department for International Development (DFID) and ESRC <a style=\"font-size: 16px; background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/esrc.ukri.org\/research\/international-research\/international-development\/esrc-dfid-joint-fund-for-poverty-alleviation-research\/\">Research Project<\/a> on <em style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Delivering Inclusive Financial Development and Growth: A Workshop in Honour of Professor Christopher J. Green\u00a0<\/em>at Loughborough University.<\/p>\n<p>He commended Prof Green\u2019s dedication and contribution to the frontiers of research in economics and finance and to his exceptional contributions to the AERC Network. Professor Christopher J. Green has contributed to mentorship of researchers both through his university academic career as well as his active involvement in the critical capacity building dimensions of AERC.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aercafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/D4987-05_The_three-1-e1548852544361.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2018We should continue the legacy of Prof Christopher Green as we seek to provide answers to these and other questions relating to financial sector development and financial inclusion in developing countries, in general, and Africa, in particular,\u2019 said Prof Ndung\u2019u.<\/p>\n<p>Prof Ndung\u2019u also shared his insights into <em>Gaps, Challenges, and Policy Opinions in Financial Development and Financial Inclusion in Africa<\/em> and suggested three key elements that are fundamental to sustaining the digital evolution for financial development in Africa &#8211; \u2018connectivity, interoperability, and electronic ID systems\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The research workshop was\u00a0 jointly convened by the Centre for Global Finance (CGF) at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soas.ac.uk\/\">SOAS<\/a> and the School of Business and Economics at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/\">Loughborough<\/a> University.
