The launch of AERC goes back to the late 1980s, when a group of Africanists and African scholars recognized the disconnect between economic policy making and economic research in Africa.
Prof. Ernest Aryeetey was appointed as the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) Board Chair on 1 April 2021. He took over from Dr. Louis Kasekende, whose term ended 31 March 2021, having served in this capacity since April 2017.
The Training Programme is collaborative in nature, bringing together departments/schools in local public universities across sub-Saharan Africa offering masters and doctoral level studies in Economics and Agricultural Economics.
The official opening of this year’s edition of the CMAAE Shared Facility for Specialisation and Electives (SFSE) was conducted virtually on August 16, 2021, setting the ground for commencement of the graduate training programme.
“An economic policy which does not consider the well-being of all will not serve the purposes of peace and the growth of well-being among the people of all nations.”
— Eleanor Roosevelt
